The Baddest Man on the Planet in Your Living Room

Michael Gerard Tyson was born at Brownsville, Brooklyn on the 30th of June, 1966. During his early years, Tyson was constantly abused by older children in his neighborhood. He gained a reputation for attacking anyone who would make fun of his high-pitched lisp. While growing up, Tyson often resorted to stealing and mugging, which had led to him being arrested 38 times by the age of 13. He later ended up being discovered for his boxing talent by an ex-boxer and counselor at a juvenile detention center. This man was Bobby Stewart, who took on the task of training Tyson during his early years. At the age of 15, Kevin Rooney was appointed the main trainer of Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson as the “Kid Dynamite”

Tyson’s first fight as a professional boxer took place on March 6, 1985. His opponent, Hector Mercedes, was knocked out in the first round. Tyson continued his career and began gaining recognition as the next great heavyweight champion. The young boxer brought truth to the speculation after winning a championship title bout with a second round technical knockout against Trevor Berbick. Mike “Kid Dynamite” Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history, gaining the title at the age of 20 years and 4 months old. Mike Tyson went on to become one of the most feared boxers during his time. After retiring in 2005, Tyson had had 58 professional bouts, 50 of them were wins, 6 were losses, and two were declared no contests. Out of Mike Tyson’s 50 wins, 44 came by knockout. Some of Mike Tyson’s other nicknames throughout his career include “Iron Mike,” and “Baddest Man on the Planet.” Although Tyson is considered one of the great boxing champions, he was often criticized for his controversial behavior, inside and outside of the ring.
